Because the development is so huge, planning applications have been handed to councils in Worcester, Malvern and Wychavon because pieces of the land sit in all three areas. Some community leaders say the new homes will be welcome news but fear it could have a huge impact on congestion. "In the plan (the SWDP) the site has the largest allocation for housing and in terms of the overall value of the scheme, you're looking at approximately 400 million. "It's a genuine mixed use scheme." He said a small supermarket would also be included, as well as plenty of outdoor space around a new market to attract people in. Fourteen hectares of employment land is also included, which will be offered to a range of small companies, and a host of sports facilities like indoor tennis and badminton courts to encourage fitness are also part of the package. He said if the outline bid gets approved, Welbeck will put together a detailed, final planning application including vital elements like the size and scale of the homes, and road improvements. Coun Tony Penn, the cabinet member for planning and housing at Malvern Hills District Council, said it will "provide useful support" to the SWDP when the housing blueprint is looked at during a public inquiry later this year. .
